Ingredients
For the Burger Patties:
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend for juiciness)
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
For the Bacon & Onions:
- 4 slices thick-cut bacon
- 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp olive oil
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
For the Buns:
- 2 brioche or hamburger buns
- 1 tbsp butter, softened
Toppings:
- 2 slices Swiss cheese
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise (optional)
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard (optional)
- 2 leaves lettuce
- 2 tomato slices
Instructions
1. Cook the Bacon:
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook bacon until crispy, about 4-5 minutes per side.
- Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate and set aside.
2. Caramelize the Onions:
- In the same skillet, remove excess bacon grease, leaving about 1 tbsp.
- Add butter and olive oil, then the sliced onions.
- Cook over medium-low heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and caramelized. Set aside.
3. Make the Burgers:
- In a bowl, mix ground beef, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Form into two patties, slightly larger than the buns (they shrink while cooking).
- Preheat a grill or skillet to medium-high heat and cook burgers for about 4 minutes per side for medium doneness.
- In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty and cover with a lid to melt.
4. Grill the Buns:
- Spread butter on the cut side of each bun.
- Place buns on the grill or skillet, cut-side down, and toast for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
5. Assemble the Burger:
- Spread mayonnaise and Dijon mustard (if using) on the toasted buns.
- Place lettuce on the bottom bun, followed by the Swiss cheese burger.
- Add crispy bacon and caramelized onions.
- Top with a tomato slice and the top bun.
